Why are they painted bright colors? Usually steel carabiners are zinc plated gold/ yellow to meet the Standards requirements for corrosion resistance. Its actually very difficult to paint them bright colors as the temperature involved with powder coating significantly affects the zinc plate. AHL has worked with a specialist company to develop an extremely tough undercoat (it’s the black coating) over which powder coat can be applied without compromising the corrosion resistance.
The Red and Green combination has been developed exclusively for VSG (Vertical Supply Group) to help the user separate and identify carabiners used for rigging PPE systems from carabiners used purely for lifting/lowering loads.
A unique symbol has also been added and to further help identify that this product can be used in ‘choke hitcl1’ applications.
